I like to teach. I like business. I love technology. My best days are spent in front of clients and CEO's helping them understand new things about their businesses. A lot of what I do falls into the category of management consulting, but all I really do is take businesses apart and put them back together.
When I was a kid if the blender went missing my mom knew where to find it. I was intensely curious and if I had an opportunity to take something apart I did. I also got pretty good at putting them back together. One time my parents bought me a new bike and much to his dismay my dad came home from work to find it completely disassembled in the living room floor. I was looking for a way to make it lighter and faster.
Today the bikes are businesses and the blenders are management systems. What astounds me is that very few people who are involved in business ever take the time to learn its language. The language of business is accounting. A sound knowledge of basic accounting principles is necessary to interpret financial statements, understand measurement systems and communicate performance. Without it most business owners abdicate a huge portion of their business responsibilities to a CFO, controller or outside accountant.
My goal is to give those business owners willing to invest 5-10 minutes per day a basic foundation for understanding their business better. It may be tools. It may be technology. It may be financial concepts (the original concept for this site).
I consider myself pretty lucky. I get to do pretty much what I like to do on most days. I own businesses that provide bookkeeping to small mom and pop businesses, tax and financial accounting services to CPA firm clients, and strategic consulting and executive coaching to larger companies. I also do professional speaking on business and financial topics.
